A quadrilateral which has at least one pair of parallel sides is called a trapezoid. [AB]//[CD]. Each of the parallel sides is called a base of the trapezoid. The non-parallel sides are the legs.

MEDIAN

The median of a trapezoid is a line joining the midpoints of the two legs. Median line is always parallel to the bases. [AB]//[EF]//[DC]
The length of the median is the average length of the bases.

The distance between the parallel sides (bases) is equal to the altitude of the trapezoid.
