Ordered Pair And Coordinate Of A Point

The following applications may take some time to load depending on connection speed. Please wait.

ORDERED PAIR

The coordinates of a point are a pair of numbers that define its exact location on a two-dimensional plane. The coordinates are written as an "ordered pair". It is called an ordered pair because the order of the two numbers matters - the first is always the x (horizontal) coordinate.

COORDINATES OF A POINT

The first number (x) specifies how far along the x (horizontal) axis the point is. The first pair is called the abscissa or the x-coordinate of the point. The second is the y coordinate or the ordinate and specifies how far up or down the y axis to go.

You can investigate the applications by moving the empty squared points.
